Dedicated to the memory of Jennie Hammond

This site is a tribute to Jennie Hammond, who is much loved and will always be remembered. Jennie dedicated nearly 20 years to serving Blind Veterans UK. Work was her passion and her vocation. Her commitment to blind veterans was exemplary and we know that she changed and saved lives through her diligence, professionalism, and great compassion for members.

For the past seven years, Jennie worked as a Community Team Leader, leading a team to support members in Essex and Hertfordshire. During this time she established and nurtured a Blind Veterans UK choir which still meets regularly in Colchester. She was a wonderful member of our team, nationally and locally, and respected by so many.  We are going to miss her very much.

Thoughts

What inspiration you have been to our family. John joined blind veterans in 2013. We had been on our last cruise and we met a fellow blind passenger from Waldringfield In suffolk and it was him that told him about Blind Veterans and how it helped and inspired him to accept his disability and he gave us the address and that's how Jenny became part of my family. Little did we know at the time what was about to happen John had his training at Brighton and learnt new skills a more confident man came back with the acceptance that he was blind. How little did we know how much we needed jenny when l was taken into Barts Hospital with my cancer blood Diagnosis l was there for the next 3 months she arranged respite for John and he was there for 8 weeks. In Brighton Jenny was in contact with my two daughters all this time she took away the frightening time and worry the girls were having and also they had jobs and 5 children under 10 to look after without the worry of the father. this was jenny going far and beyond not only for myself even the dog was sorted. An inspiration to all to try something new the support was there we have made wonderful contacts with choir members some who be came good friends exciting reunion and continued respite over the last eight years from Brighton and Llandudno such good memories. Jenny was undoubtedly one of the most kind and totally dedicated to her job and will be so sorely missed by all members our condolences to jenny s family a treasure we will miss your sincerely.
